BIOGRAPHY

Geza Hosszu Legoczky already impresses the most demanding of audiences whilst affirming a non-conventional mind-set with various musical genres.

 

Born in Switzerland as an american citzen into Hungarian-Ukrainian parents, Geza Hosszu Legocky atracts his public already at the age of 6 after entering the Vienna Music Academy as a special gifted violin prodigy.
At the age of 7 he tours with the Udine Chamber Orchestra in Italy where he shockes his first audiences with his special gift for the Violin. At the age of 10 he wins 1st prize at the international competition "Prima la Musica" which brings him to a wider audience. A year later Francois Gerard invites him to play in the Hollywood Movie "The Red Violin" alongside with actor Samuel L. Jackson.

At the age of 12, being already a Star Prodigy he is invited to perform at the famous Verbier Music Festival as a special guest performance with legendary Ida Haendel and Vadim Repin where he recieves a standing ovation.

At the age of 14 he makes his big Debute Performances with the NHK Philharmonic Orchestra with Charles Dutoit, and also with other Orchestras such as The Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra under M.w.Chung, The Swiss-Italian Radio Orchestra under Jacek Kapszsyk to name a few.Geza had also the great privilege to construct projects with Chamber Orchestras such as The Kremerata Baltica performing the Bach Concerto No.1 at the great "Salle Pleyel" in Paris. For his exceptional gift for music and his capacity to transmit his emotions directly into the heart of his Audiences, lead him to share his early career with living legends such as, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Charles Dutoit, Yehudi Menuhin, Ruggiero Ricci, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel by whom he has bean acclaimed as the most gifted Violinist not only from our time, but comparing him to Violinist from the golden age of Violin like for instance, Jascha Heifetz, Yehudi Menuhin, Nathan Milstein, Ivry Gitlis, etc. in 2001 he has bean chosen to take part at the Dorothy Delay Symposium at the great Juilliard School of Music in New York, and has bean acclaimed to be the most gifted Violinist of his age not only by Dorothy Delay but by american Violinist Robert Mcduffie, who invites him a few month later to perform at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado for millions of listeners on NPR Evenings, "Special Hour" show.

His interests in bringing his qualities in classical music to other genres such as, folk, gypsy, jewish, Jazz and even Pop music, has made him an individual figure. in 2003 he has found his gypsy-jewish Group "The 5 DeViLs" for a Project in Switzerland at the Progetto Argerich, and had an immediate success. The concert recording was recorded by EMI classics and was chosen among grammy nomination. 1 year later he comes back to the same Festival to perform the Schumann Sonata No.1 with legendary pianist Martha Argerich, which was chosen as best chamber music performance of the year 2004. Since than he has toured all over Europe, South America, The United States and Asia.

Returning to his interests in different genres, in 2010 Geza returnes to the Salle Pleyel in Paris to perform a "Concert de Tango", broadcasted by Mezzo and Arte. This concert was attended by no other than legendary Film Composer "Michel Legrand" who invites him to perform alongside his wife, legendary Harpist "Catherine Michel" his own compositions, such as the famous "Umbrellas of Cherbourg", "Summer of 42" and some of his Oscar nominated movie compositions.

Last year Geza has bean chosen to play a Stradivarius Violin dating from the year 1715, which belonged to legendary hungarian Violinist "Joseph Joachim" and was lent to him for 1 year by the Nippon Music Foundation. Today Geza performs on a "Lorenzo & Tomasso Carcassi" Violin dating from 1766, on generous loan to him by great Violinist and Artistic Director of "PietraSanta in Concerto" Michael Guttman.

Since May 2011, Geza has been putting a lot of energy in Budapest, to form, in his country of origin, an exceptional orchestra of young prodigy soloists, the "Bohemian Virtuosi".
Hardly a month later, they appeared on stage at the great Lugano festival. Immediate success. The project of creating a foundation was born. Its goal is to help young Eastern European talented musicians cope with financial realities and express themselves within a group.
